IFST Western Branch Conference: Living with Natasha’s Law

Natasha’s law came into effect on 1/10/21, how has that affected the food industry? In particular the Food to go sector considering the the way supply chains are operated and products are developed. Anita Kinsey (Pret a Manger) and Jude Walker (FSC Group) will talk about measures they have in place to comply with the requirements of Natasha’s law and Debra Smith (Vikan) will talk about about the role of Factory Hygiene in controlling allergens

Speaker: Jude Walker, Head of Technical, FSC (Foodservice Centre) Group
Jude Walker is Head of Technical at The Foodservice Centre, a business with award winning experience in creating, rolling out and managing bespoke customer food-on-the-move solutions for customers in the UK and across the globe.
Specialising in Food Safety, Processing and Training, Jude has over 14 years in Food Manufacturing and supports client’s unique challenges in delivering safe, legal and high-quality food to their consumer. In addition, as part of FSC, Jude delivers and manages different aspects of Food Safety Management Systems to improve compliance and drive food safety culture within a diverse customer and category base.
By focusing on achieving excellence in food safety, Jude has been able to apply her degree in Food Science & Nutrition (BSc(Hons)) along with qualifications in Advanced Food Safety & HACCP. Over her career, Jude has been an engaged member of IFST and the International Association for Food Protection. She has contributed to several industry working groups including the British Sandwich Association Listeria Working Group and peer reviewed the subsequent publication.
Speaker: Debra Smith, Global Hygiene Specialist, Vikan group
Deb has almost 40 years of food safety/research training and experience. Prior to joining Vikan she worked as a microbiologist at a large poultry production site; with DEFRA as a Scientific Officer in the Food Safety Division; and as Food Hygiene Research Manager at Campden BRI. Deb holds qualifications in Applied Microbiology (HNC), Nutrition & Food Science (BSc (Hons)), Advanced Food Hygiene and HACCP. She is also holds the FSSC 22000 Lead Auditor qualification. Deb regularly presents her research at National and International food safety events and webinars, and has authored/co-authored of numerous food safety/hygiene publications, including Blogs, trade articles, peer reviewed papers, Whitepapers, book chapters, and several food industry hygiene guidelines and on-line resources.
Speaker: Anita Kinsey, Senior Technical and Safety Manager, Pret A Manger
Anita has a wealth of experience having worked for 13 years in food manufacturing supplying all the major retailers prior to joining Pret A Manger in 2001. She is currently splitting her time between UK and Global. She is responsible for managing a group of UK suppliers, ensuring Pret standards are maintained as well as ensuring that products are launched on time. She also helps to deliver global projects, as well as co-ordinating a liaising with external associations and leading the allergen system. She also sits on the Industry Exchange Group which was set up by Pret in 2018 to share best practice on allergen management, communication and education within the hospitality industry. In addition, she is a Fellow of IFST and Chartered Scientist as well as being Chair of the IFST Professional Development Committee and sits on the IFST Board of Trustees.
